Fogo de Chão to open in Northern Virginia

BizJournals.com, Rebecca Cooper, July 29, 2016

Brazilian steakhouse and perennial provider of food coma Fogo de Chão will open its second D.C.-area location at 1775 Tysons Blvd. in Tysons. Fogo is known for its style of service, which features a rotating cavalcade of meats brought to guests who use a small indicator with “yes” or “no” sides to declare if they’re too full to go on.

The restaurant will anchor the ground-floor retail of the 17-story office building from Lerner Enterprises that is home to EY (formerly Ernst & Young) and federal contractor CSC. No opening date was provided.

Plateau: Fast-growing restaurateur Hakan Ilhan will open another French restaurant in the District, this one called Plateau and located steps from the White House at 900 16th St. NW. Ilhan owns Alba Osteria, and opened French spot L’Homage Bistro and Turkish restaurant Ottoman Taverna in Mount Vernon Triangle in the past year. He also owns Al Dente in American University Park. The 4,300-square-foot Plateau will seat 147 inside and 60 on an outdoor patio. It will open in early 2017.

All-Purpose: This pizza spot from Red Hen Chef Mike Friedman, which just opened in Shaw to much acclaim earlier this year, already has a second spot in the works: a 2,900-square-foot restaurant in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood. The restaurant will open in Dock79 at 79 Potomac Ave. SE, a new residential building from Florida Rock Development and MRP Realty. The restaurant will serve a similar menu of pizza and Italian fare to the original, and add an expanded beer program. It will include a 75-seat patio overlooking the Anacostia River.

Modern Market: Colorado-based, fast-casual restaurant Modern Market will open its first D.C.-area location later this summer in Bethesda. The restaurant, to be located in the former Boloco Burrito space at 4930 Elm St. on Bethesda Row, serves a wide-ranging breakfast, lunch and dinner menu featuring items like whole grain waffles, breakfast scrambles, soups, salads, sandwiches and more with a focus on sustainable and local ingredients. The restaurant aims to open in mid-August.

Vola’s: New Alexandria waterfront spot Vola’s Dockside Grill and Hi-Tide Lounge will open the week of Aug. 22 in the space formerly home to waterfront market at 101 N. Union St. The restaurant’s parent, Alexandria Restaurant Partners, are behind other popular Northern Virginia spots Virtue Feed & Grain, The Majestic, Lena’s and Palette 22. The restaurant will seat 120 inside, including the bar, with an additional 100 seats on the waterfront patio outside. Hi-Tide Lounge, which is a connected but separate space, features 38 bar seats and other lounge seating. The menu will focus on seafood, and cocktails will lean toward classic and frozen drinks.
