American Bar Association Signs Lease for 61,000 Square Feet National Headquarters at Washington Square

Washington, D.C., March 6, 2012 – Lerner Enterprises, Washington, D.C.’s largest private real estate developer, and The Tower Companies, the largest Green Builders in the nation’s capital, both of Rockville, Maryland, announced today that the American Bar Association (ABA) will lease 61,000 square feet at Washington Square, located at 1050 Connecticut Avenue at L Street, NW.  The new offices, scheduled for occupancy in June 2013, will act as the ABA’s new national headquarters. Washington Square (WashingtonSquareDC.com) was originally developed by Lerner and Tower in 1982 and recently completed a major $14 million dollar common area renovation.

The American Bar Association (AmericanBar.org) is the largest voluntary professional association in the world.  With nearly 400,000 members, the ABA provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education, information about the law, programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system for the public.

The ABA was represented by Arthur G. Greenberg, John J. Goodman and Bie Chu Lee of the Washington, D.C. office of Studley and Washington Square was represented by Brian F. Tucker and Brian R. Raher of Cushman and Wakefield.  Lerner and Tower recently announced the expansions and long term extensions of two of Washington Square’s distinguished law firms Baker Hostetler and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher.  Gibson recently expanded their offices to 205,000 square feet and Baker Hostetler expanded to 100,000 in 2011.

Washington Square currently has 23,000 square feet on the 10th floor and 20,000 square feet on the 12th floor available for immediate occupancy and 170,000 square feet available for occupancy beginning in January 2013.

Lerner’s newest office developments include 1775 Tysons Boulevard (Tysons2.com), an 18-story, 476,000 square-foot Class ‘A’ office tower that is currently under construction, is footsteps from the Tysons I and Tysons II Metro Station and has the certification goal of LEED® Platinum – the first office building development in Tysons Corner, Virginia to do so; and Fallsgrove Plaza (FallsgroveOffice.com), a planned state-of-the-art five-story 110,000 square-foot Class ‘A’ medical office building with a LEED® Gold certification goal. The project is located on Shady Grove and Blackwell Roads in Rockville, Maryland within the Life Science Corridor of Montgomery County, Maryland.
