White Flint to Retain Name Within the Pike District

North Bethesda, Maryland, December 11, 2014 – Lerner Enterprises, one of Washington, D.C.’s largest private real estate developers, and The Tower Companies, the largest Green Builders in the nation’s capital, both of Rockville, Maryland, announced today that it will retain the name White Flint within the Pike District, located in Montgomery County, Maryland.

“It has always been our plan to keep the name because of its historical and recognizable brand equity,” said Edward de Avila, Vice President of Redevelopment for Lerner, a co-developer of White Flint. “White Flint will continue to create an authentic connection between the area’s past and future as it redefines White Flint and delivers the strongest sense of place for the community,” he added.

The Pike District brands the larger Rockville Pike corridor and reflects a cohesive economic marketing opportunity, while White Flint remains an enduring name and one of value within the local community. “We recognize that there was some confusion, which stemmed from the distinguished brand equity of White Flint and how it has extended beyond the mall property,” de Avila stated.

Both Lerner and The Tower Companies support the position of a comprehensive marketing effort for the Rockville Pike corridor which was needed to identify the area that extends from North Bethesda to the City of Rockville. “We look forward to working together with the County to distinguish the Pike District as a vibrant economic development district,” he said in closing.

White Flint continues with its plan to transform the immediate area from a suburban community into a transit oriented, smart growth, walkable-urban community where people and businesses want to live – work – shop.
